Publishing Your First Project
Previous  Top  Next

After you create your first SetupCast project and review the generated content it is time to publish it!

This tutorial will show you how to publish this test project to your website in such a way that it should not affect the normal operation. If you follow the directions here then you can also easily delete the test project when you are finished with it.

Note: In normal use you would most likely enter the publishing information when you first create the project (before reviewing the content by installer type). However to keep the tutorial on creating the project and the one on publishing it separate we skipped this step and now are returning to the Project Settings to complete it.

Preparing to Publish

Before SetupCast can publish your generated content and/or distribution files to your website two things need to be done.

1. You must provide SetupCast information about your web server (URL, Login, Password, etc).
2. You must make sure that the directories where the files will be published are correct.

Preview the Publish Layout

A very useful feature of SetupCast is the ability to preview the Publish Layout. After you have entered the Publish Settings information you can use this menu option to display a visual representation of where your files go and how to access them.

Click here to see the Publish Layout.

Publishing Your Files

After you preview your Publish Layout you are ready to actually publish your files.

View Publish Report

After your files are published, a detailed report is prepared that gives you information about the FTP session. It also provides hyperlinks that you can use to check your newly published content with your web browser.
