Enhanced SetupBuilder Web Update Client
Previous  Top  Next

SetupCast ships with a modified version of the SetupBuilder Web Update Client. This special Web Update Client works with content automatically generated by SetupCast to provide a significant enhancement to the end user experience during the web update process.

The Enhanced Web Update Client transforms the SetupBuilder web update session from this:

into this:

When an update is available, the Enhanced Web Update Client displays a RTF file that is merged with the content from your SetupCast project information AND (optionally) data merged at runtime from the end user's computer.

The RTF file is based on a template and you control the layout and what information is displayed.

Using the Enhanced SetupBuilder client with content generated by SetupCast results in a "live" update session where the end user can see information such as:
·The version of your software they are currently running
·The version of the new upgrade
·The size of the download ( in Bytes, Kilobytes, Megabytes or Gigabytes - as you prefer )
·Any release notes that you want to provide with the web update

Best of all - they can see this BEFORE they decide to actually download the update.

Your customers will love this because it gives them the information they need to decide if they want to continue with the update now or wait until another time!

Locating the Enhanced Web Update Client

When you run SetupCast for the first time, the Enhanced Client for SetupBuilder will be automatically extracted into a folder under your SetupCast data directory:

Both the SetupBuilder source (.sbi) file is included and a pre-compiled (wupdate.exe) version:

The compiled version is ready to use (no modification required), but you have the source in case you need to modify it.
